Day 5 – 2012/August/02

It arrived!  Just in the nick of time, too…  Mircea and I bought our one-way bus tickets to Skogur (southern part of Iceland) at 5:00 pm tomorrow night.  Looks like our 3-day trek will take us over ~76 km… so I’m thinking we should be okay getting a start on Friday night.
Today’s class was short – discussions on definitions of “sustainability” and dividing up into groups for our Case Study report.  The Icelandic lesson was taught by a couple LDS missionaries…  and Mircea and I went grocery shopping.  I counted it a success that between the 2 of us, for the long weekend backpacking trip, we spent only ~5000kr each on food (ie ~$50).
I raced the sun out to the lighthouse… and won.  I missed my turn on the ride back, adding ~30 minutes to the trip…  and I am beginning to feel the lack of sleep.
It has been a low key day, overall.  I think I may need the downtime before the trip this weekend!  It will be Monday before I get to post anything else…  I hope everyone back in the States has a great weekend!

  1. That is cool!
Time lapsed photography really is something seeing the sun set. How high does the sun get in the sky at this time of year there at noon?

  2. I've not really noticed how high the sun gets... most days, I've been inside at noon for class. But there was enough sun on the trail this past weekend to get a mild sunburn on my face!
